Bulgaria PM Promises 'Uncompromising' Corruption Crack Down

Bulgaria PM Boyko Borisov has warned that the next few weeks will see his government being “uncompromising against people in power.”
Borisov, speaking at the opening of an international conference devoted to European best practices to combat corruption, revealed that a report showed BGN 222 M was spent on 22 km on a single-lane road during the previous government’s reign, while BGN 300 M was spent on the whole Burgas highway – an example he said of extreme corruption.
He continued that “there are people in power who have begun to do things that they know I am extremely opposed to.” Borisov also reveled that the EU interim report on Bulgaria contained the words "there is political will", which he believes sums up the government’s first 7-8 months in power.
He concluded that the government is preparing amendments to the Penal Code and the Criminal Procedure Code, along with the creation of specialized courts, to allow the investigations of OLAF to have probative force.
