MP - Investment Intentions in Constructing Shipka Tunnel Exist

Investment intentions in realisation of the project for tunnel under the Mount Shipka exist and the tunnel could appear in a year and a half, MP Ivan Stamatov from the Bulgarian People's Union told media Wednesday.
"If the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works starts negotiations, constructions works could start quickly," Stamatov said. "There are Bulgarian, as well as foreign companies interested in the infrastructure project."
The idea for a tunnel under the Balkan mountain in central Bulgaria has a 100-year-old history but realisation has been delayed ever since. According to experts, the construction of the tunnel would cost about BGN 250 M (EUR 129 M).
